5 of the Best Marma Mats for Your Feet

5 best marma mats

The best marma mats are the ones that have stood the test of time and proven how good they are by how you feel after. Consistent use is key with anything in life, and the same goes for the marma mat.

If you are going to use it once, you will not reap the benefit, and will ultimately give up or say it doesn’t work.

Marma mats are not so common right now, but they have been around for thousands of years.

Ayurveda and Marma Points

In Ayurveda, we believe in the energy that gets stagnant in marma points around our body. There are 107 marma points in our body. The feet house some of the pressure points that affect the marma points and all the functioning that goes with it. Read more here about the history and benefits of using a marma mat.

Wha’s great about the marma mat is that you are giving yourself some self-love by simply self-massaging your feet. And we all know how desperately we need to give our feet some major love and appreciation.

Do Marma Mats Really Work?

Yes! They act the same way a massage therapist works our kinks in your body. The marma mats have strategically placed points on the mat that apply pressure to the marma points in your body. This releases toxins the same way a masseuse would.

Are Suki Mats and Marma Mats the Same?

No. Suki mats are based on a therapy of applying pressure (and pain) using over 6000 points on your skin and muscles.

Marma mats follow a 3000BCE understanding in Ayurveda about the 107 pressure points that “control” energy flow in your body and how to unblock stagnant energy and release toxins from those points.

What are the Best Marma Mats?

The marma mats listed below consider important aspects of the end product during manufacturing. This includes the environment, the intention of the company, and that the people who use them are the ones now making them too. As you will see, some of the mats are developed by people in the Ayurvedic community as well. These marma mats are specifically formulated and developed by keeping the vision and intent of the ancient origins of the mat.

Now let’s get into it so you can go out and purchase a marma mat and start your journey to self healing.

1. Silicone Marma Mat

I love the color of these mats. Okay, so thats not the point but still. These are amazing marma mats to purchase for anyone just starting out the practice. They are silicone mats that are easy on sensitive feet. While the marma points are zoned perfectly, they are not as sharp as the ones below.

The mat doesn’t use any plastic, so you can be happy to know that you are using something safe. The silicone is also FDA approved and of food grade quality.

What is AMAZING about this specific marma mat, is that the company states that it is safe to be heated in an OVEN at 350f, or a microwave, or in boiling water. How awesome and mind blowing is that? At least, it is for me.

And if that wasn’t enough, you can plop this mat into your freezer to be used as an ice pack. Again, Mind. Blown.

Please read the instructions that come with the mat for proper and safe use.

2. Wood Marma Mat

Okay so this wood marma mat is made by the same company above. The mat is complete wood so its best used on a surface that has some grip. Since it is all wood, you will feel the pinch of the prickly points. If you are just starting off with marma pressure point therapy of daily practice, I suggest the silicone one above. However, if you are not too sensitive and need that sharpness in your life, get this one.

Since there is no plastic, there is no need for concern as you use this. Make sure you store it in a dry place. Since it is wood (albeit treated), make sure you clean it with a safe wood product or a soft wet cloth.

3. Veda Marma Mat

This is the first marma mat that was gifted to me. It is so light and easy to lay out anywhere. It’s also easy to roll up and store too. The site recommends using this for you palm points too but I have not done that. I prefer to keep this mat under my work desk and have my feet resting on it. Whenever I remember, I will stand up on the mat and walk in place for about 10 minutes.

Like any good marma mat, this one is prickly too. So if the points are causing you pain, wear some socks and then step on it. This mat is part of the offerings of a Ayurvedic counselor who specializes in Ayurvedic and Yogic work. Something to keep in mind.

3. Bodhi Marma Mat

This is the second marma mat that I own. I keep this one in my bathroom. The mat itself is light and easy to move around. It does have a cotton cover so be careful stepping onto it when it’s placed on a smooth surface with no grip.

The zone points match any other marma mat so you know you’re getting pressure in the right areas of your feet. It is also used as a reflexology mat in traditional Chinese medicine. I do use this everyday as part of my Ayurvedic morning ritual and routine. Read about how you can start your own Ayurvedic morning ritual here.

I like to use these with socks since they are made of plastic (recyclable, but still – plastic). You could also throw a hand towel over the mat and use it that way to avoid any touch with the plastic pyramids.

5. SSAV Foot Mat

The SSAV foot mat is another great option as a marma mat for your feet. This inexpensive marma mat is a good option if you are trying to give marma therapy a try without breaking the bank. It has the same pointiness that give your marma points the pressure they need.

It is a latex-free PVC product so you just know that going in before purchasing this one. However, if you do plan to use it, my suggestion would be to throw some socks on your feet before using it. You could also throw a hand towel over the mat so you protect your feet from the PVC.

Caution When Using a Marma Mat

As listed in the article above about the marma mats, people who are pregnant or who have existing health conditions such as coronary disease or high BP, should consult with their doctors before using any health related product.
